『朝鮮の聚落』(1935)을 통해 본 한국 宗族村落의 기원과 분포

A Study on Origin and Distribution of Lineage Settlements in Korea Reported on 『朝鮮の聚落』(Settlements of Joseon, 1935)

본 연구는 한반도 전역을 대상으로 조사한 최초의 근대적 촌락 보고서인 『朝鮮の聚落』(1935)을 통해 우리 나라 종족촌락의 기원과 분포 특징을 탐구한 것이다. 이 보고서에서 일본인 기록자들은 한국의 宗族村落을 일본식 용어인 同族部落으로 바꾸어 호칭하면서 한반도의 이른바 ‘저명 동족부락’을 조사 항목으로 규정한 다음, 그 소재 지, 인구 규모, 성씨별 비중, 마을의 기원 시기, 마을이 형성된 유래 등에 대한 정보들을 체계적이고도 광범위하게 탐문하여 수록하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국의 촌락에 임하던 당시 조사자의 인식과 관점을 이해하기 위해 먼저 『朝鮮の聚落』(1935)에 대한 해제를 시도하였고, 이 보고서에 수록된 종족촌락에 관한 공간 정보와 속성 정보들 을 활용하여 다양한 주제도로 표현해 보았다. 연구자는 이들 주제도에 나타난 여러 가지 공간적 단서들을 통해 우 리나라 종족촌락의 기원 시기, 형성 배경, 분포 특징 등에 관한 부분적 해명을 시도하는 한편, 이와 관련된 후속적 탐구 주제들을 제안할 수 있었다

This study investigates the origin and distribution of lineage settlements in Korea reported on 『朝鮮の 聚落』(settlements of Joseon, 1935) which is the first volume of nation-wide collection and modern-systematic composition in Korea. 『朝鮮の聚落』has some limits in that it uses the term Dongjok Burak(Japanese Settlement of the same family) in place of Jongjok Chollak(Korean lineage settlements) as a key concepts. But, it is of considerable merits in that such information as sites, population, origin and formation processes of lineage settlements in Japanese colonial period of Korea reported in the volume are relatively systematic and objective because those are obtained based on empirical survey. The author presents a bibliographical introduction on that volume ahead, and then makes thematic maps based on spatial information and attribute information which the volume gathered. Being based on the spatial clues in these maps, the author tries to elucidate some characteristics of the origin and distribution, formation processes of lineage settlements in Korea on the one hand, and proposes themes waiting researches on theother hand.
