Arabic in Africa -Emphasizing on its spread and settlement factions-

This paper aims to clear up the the historical background of Arabic introduction in Africa in the title of 'Arabic in Africa' emphasizing on its spread and settlement factors. It goes without saying that Arabic in Africa has a long history which goes back more than 2300 years, before the advent of Islam. About B.C.230, Arabic was introduced to Africa by those who were engaged in the commercial transaction and the arab immigrants from Arabian peninsula. To show the relationship between Arabic and Africa languages, the researcher tried to compare some words and grammatical aspects. Such as Hausa and Swahili has borrowed more than 20~30% of its vocabulary from Arabic. Also there are several factors in connextion with Arabic spread in Africa ; the geographical, population, hoistorical, political, linguistic which had contributed to Arabic settlement in Africa. In the future it is necessary to study the relationship of the inflow between Arabic and Africa languages to clear up the mutural linguistic contact in respect to the vocabularies.
