This article presented views of scholars, which dealt with the openings in Jāhilī poems, specially with the opening of țalal(traces of man's life) and nasīb(erotic love with sorrowful tone). Ibn Qutayba's view means that the nasīb opening is due to the Jāhilī poets' intention to attract audience's concern by arousing erotic emotion at the beginning of the poems. Yūsuf Xulayf interprets țalal opening as a result of Arabs' nomadic life characterized by moving. Faltre Brown insists that man's fear of incomprehensible fate and his agony of vanity in life and of his finiteness are implied in the openings. ʕIzz Al-din holds the view that the nasīb opening symbolizes ontological contradiction between man's consciousness of fate and his desire for life. Putting these views together, I have gained confidence that the țalal opening is related to Arabs' nomadic life, and that the ḡazal opening is connected with man's instrinctive taste for erotic emotion. Besides, I am sure that the known types of openings in Jāhilī poems implies Arabs' agony of obscure fate in pre-Islamic age.
