'Ibn Zaidūn was the representive of the purest traditional classical Arabic style in Al-Andalus. As the Khalif al-Mustakfī's daughter, Wallāda was very beautiful and attrative woman in her time. Her free manners and disdain of the veil indicated an ardent nature. Her house at Cordova was the arena in which poets and prose writers were vying with each other. 'Ibn Zaidūn's first meeting with Wallāda began in her house. From that time they enjoyed the full illusion of mutual love, the happy union. But Wallāda began to get tired of 'Ibn Zaidūn. So, she left him alone. However he only wrote to her, describing the extreme pain of his soul, and the situation in which he found himself, blaming her indifference to their pact of fidelity, and depicting to her the happy days when he was near her and could see her. 'Ibn Zaidūn's life and literary output were deeply affected by his passion for the ambitious, flint-hearted woman Wallūda, and 'Ibn Zaidūn's fatal attachmen to Wallā was the source of inspiration for the greatest masterpiece of his Diwān.
