A Study on Arabic Antonym -Emphasizing on its concept and brith factors-

This article deals with ' A study on Arabic Antonym' in respect of its concept and birth factors, which followed the two articles, relating to Synonym and Homonym in Arabic language, that the researcher has presented recently. According to the ancient Arabic grammarians, they defined Antonym as the word implying two opposite meanings. This definition is different from the definition used in the modern linguistics. And we have reached to clear up some factors that have influence on the appearance of Antonym as follows; 1) generalization of the original meaning, 2) one's view of life(optimism or pessimism), 3) two meanings of one form, 4) paradoxical expression, 5) vocal variation, 6) metaphor, 7) the differences of the Arabic dialects.
