An Algerian Writer al-Ṭāhir Waṭṭār's Post-Colonism Writing

Algerian literature is being, considered as one of the typical post-colonial literature among the third world literature. Algeria had been contacted with other cultures like Rome, Vandal, Arab, and Turkey, even before France colonized it for 132years. The multi and complicated cultural aspects are well showed in multi-lingual situation-Arabic French, and Berber- in Algeria. Al-Tahir Wattar is belonging to the first generation of Arabic-writing writers, which has challenged the Algerian literature that had been leaded by French oriented intellectuals. Al-Tahir Wattar, educated at Zaitunah University in Tunisia, has participated in Algerian national independence movement. After independence of Algeria, he became a writer to describe his experiences during colonial and post-colonial periods. This paper will study on literary backgrounds of Algerian literature, Algerian revolution struggles and political freedom, social crisis in post-Algerian society, spiritual crisis shown in the religion, and conflict and hope of post-colonial Algeria through Watta˘r's representative novels.
