The defeat of the Arabs in 1948, and the subsequent loss of Palestine to the Jews(al-Nakba), together with the Arab defeat in the June War in 1967 (al-Naksa) constituted the harshest trials and tribulations the Arabs have encountered throughout their long history. This Arab-Israeli conflict is the singlemost imortant theme which dominates contemporary Arabic Poetry. This paper will provide an in-depth examination of this theme as well as the literary devices utilized by Arabic poets including symbol, myth and folk culture. The poetry can be divided into four main categories: Palestinian-Arab identity, Palestinian-Arab refugees, the bitterness of exile, and the Palestinian resistance movement, a predominant theme since Al-Naksa.
