Changes and Conflicts of Algerian Society in South Wind by 'Abd al-Ḥamīd ibn Hudūqah

The Novel South Wind(1970) by 'Abd al-Ḥamīd ibn Hudu­qah is considered as the first Algerian novel in technical sense by many critics. 'Abd al-Ḥamīd ibn Hudu­qah who has lived during a turning point in Algerian history could depict changes and conflicts of Algerian society during that period in his novel South Wind. This paper deals with conflicts and contradiction between the large landowner class and the post independence generation, between the patriarchal tradition and the new women, and between social classes. And finally it studies on possibility of harmonizing these conflicts and contradiction in Algerian society.
