Mouhammed Choukri is considered as one of the leading Arabic writers of Morocco. Born in the West Rif, Morocco in 1935, Mouhammed Choukri has been a victim of the famine and a street-child for many years. Facing with homelessness and despair, Choukri has lived a saga of an inconceivable life of poverty and illiteracy until he found salvation in the classical Arabic, that he learned for the first time in 1956 at the age of 21. His first autobigraphy "Al-Khubz al-Hafi" (entitled in English as For Bread Alone 1973), was written in 1971, but was banned in Morocco and in most Arab countries. His work has come under criticism from the Moroccan authorities, and several of his books are still not available in Arabic, or only in self-censored versions. His second autobiography "Zaman al-akht:a" (entitled in English as Streetwise) is a disturbing philosophical portrait of the author's life in Tangier as a series of "Al-Khubz al-Hafi". This study aims at taking view of these two autobigraphies of Mouhammed Choukri as a window for looking at Moroccan society, especially its vicious circle and cycle of dehumanization for marginal persons, women.
