The present study examines speech acts in translation of literary dialogues in the Arabic language. For this analytical purpose, the study chooses one of the Korean translations of Naguib Mahfouz's novel. It makes comparison between source text and target text and analyzes translation associated with speech acts and text act. Speech acts are the basic or minimal unit of communication. They serve as an important factor in view of the fact that a translation work conveys intention of the author. The present analysis indicates that speech acts consist of text act. That is to say that the whole flow of the text and coherence of each propositions contribute to the development of communication between the author and readers. On the contrary, mistranslated speech acts distort the discourse structure as a whole and thereby they cause a breakdown in the communication. This is a pilot study which analyzes its actual usage of speech acts and text act. It is necessary to use illocutionary force which will help to indicate devices, adequate in the target language.
