A Study on a Palestinian Female Poet, Fadwā Ṭūqān

Fadwā Ṭūqān, one of the leading female poets in the Middle East. focused mainly on the self and the suppression and incarceration of women in her society. But since 1967, her experiences under Israeli occupation have prompted her to concentrate on the theme of the Palestinian struggle, and she has made a significant contribution to its poetry of resistance. Her poems written on the Palestinian issues concentrates on four predominant themes: Palestinian refugees. the longing for their return home, the bitter experience of successive defeat, and the Fidai. These themes are exactly the same as those of Arab male poets who write on the Palestinian cause. However. her poetry is differentiated from that of other male poets in that she approaches to the theme indirectly'owing to her compact and fine diction. and in that she takes a feminist viewpoint in selecting poetic subjects. such as women, mother, children, and orphans.
