It was impossible that for a long time in the Arabic literature the myths of the non-islamic were used. But starting from the Egyptian invasion of Napoleon in 1798 the symbols of the Christianity were used by the some poets and authors who got influenced from the christian hymns and the European missionaries frequently. Among them the Mahjar poets in North America from Syria and Lebanon were Christians and for them the influences of the Christianity was natural. On the other hand the modern Arab poets used the symbols of the christianity, the symbols of the Bible, the myths of the old Near East and the Greek myths not to express their religious experiences but to deliver their spiritual and physical conditions. The main purpose of symbols was the expression of the poet's spiritual pain, sense of loss, persecution and isolation from his society. Especially Sayyāb used lots of mystical symbols to express his painful life. In my thesis I will study on the symbols of the Christianity by Sayyāb, the Christian Iraqian poet through his poems.
