The Strategic Leadership of the Saudi Royal Family: the Political Power and the Military

The sons of the Founder, King Abdul-Aziz ibn Abd-Rahman al-Faysal Al Saud, and the sons of his sons have seized the political power and the military since he died 1953. Especially two factions, the Crown Prince leading Sudairis and King Abdullah balancing Sidairis have bisected the key political and military positions. With the rapid political changes in the region, the requirements for political reform in Saudi Arabia have been raised since Arab Spring in 2011. But currently there is no possibility for the Royal Regime to reform the political system by itself. Besides, there is no the internal powerful opposition against the Royal Regime and no the external powerful sponsor of the opposition out of the Kingdom. The biggest political unrest in the Kingdom may come from the internal power struggle for the throne among many princes who have the pretension to the throne. In this situation, the dissonance between the United States and Saudi Arabia has occurred.
