Kazakhstan's Eurasianism and its Foreign Policy

This study is focused on exploring the background and objectives of Kazakhstan's Eurasianism which has been the ideological foundation of the domestic and foreign policy of Kazakhstan and how her Eurasianism has manifested itself in Kazakhstan's foreign policy since 1991. Kazakhstan is one of the countries most actively promoting the Eurasianism and seeking for the harmony among various cultures, nations, religions across the Eurasian Continent. Different from Russia's Eurasianism emphasizing on her uniqueness, Kazakhstan's Eurasianism has been giving more attention to communication and integration and trying to shape her state's role as being a 'mediator' and 'heart' in the Eurasian Continent. Thus, it is likely to say that Kazakhstan's Eurasianism has provided legitimacy and necessity to her multi-vector foreign policy which has been able to cooperate with any other states and any multilateral organizations in the world. Also, it explains that Kazakhstan has found the philosophical and ideological foundation of her foreign policy's orientation and direction from the spacial and geographical conception of 'Eurasianism'. During for more than 20 years Kazakhstan has broadened her diplomatic relations from Central Asia to Europe, Asia and Islamic world and many international communities now see Kazakhstan as an meaningful player which could contribute to security-building and integration in the Eurasian Continent. Kazakhstan's Eurasianism has made Kazakhstan quickly recognize her regional and global role (mediator & bridge, leading 'belt of anticipation', and heart of the Eurasian Continent) in the newly constructed international environment. Furthermore, it has given opportunities to build mutual and multilateral relations with other states and international organizations by promoting multi-vector foreign policy. Therefore, it can be finally evaluated that Kazakhstan has realized the 'Eurasian' concept most successfully than any other Eurasian states and become an emerging player with her own geo-strategical objectives in the region.
