오바마 독트린에 내포된 미국의 국가 정체성과 국제정치적 표상

American National Identity and International Representation in the Obama Doctrine

  • 471

This study analyzes the practices and implications of the Obama Doctrine from the constructivism perspective. Adopting the discourse analysis, it explores a variety of declarations, documents and speeches by president Barack Obama and his adminstration. This research uses two dimension tools of state identity and representation. The Obama doctrine provides three state identities to construct the American national interest: mission state, behind state and non-violence state. The Obama Doctrine redefines and protects American vital interests. It also provides three international representations to back up and justify its his foreign policy practices: common security, peace without nuclear weapons and global terror war. State identities and representation internalized in the Obama Doctrine explain why the foreign policy of the Obama administration maintains its continuity. American identity and representation in the Obama Doctrine are rather practical than ideal.
