Analysis of Ibn Zaydūn's 'al-Qaṣīdah 'al-Nūniyyah'

Ibn Zaydūn's 'al-Qaṣīdah 'al-Nūniyyah is possible to divide five sections. In section 1, We finds the verses thematically united by the idea of the lovers' separation which concludes in the attitude of hopelessness and resignation. In section 2, Ibn Zaydūn addresses Wallādah formally and recalls that their nights together were blissful. Section 3 is regarded the heart of poem. So, Ibn Zaydūn intimates that Wallādah is his light, his divinity, the center of his universe. Section 4 coincide thematically with section 2. Accordingly, there is a return to recollections of sexual love, expressions of despair, and accounts of patience. Section 5 correspond to section 1. This section contains themes of unhappiness and faithfulness, as well as an appeal for a reply from the beloved Wallādah. After a night of hope and sexual thoughts, Ibn Zaydūn concludes the poem at the moment of exposure. By ending the poem at the break of another dismal and sorrowful day, Ibn Zaydūn anticipates that Wallādah's reply will never come.
