Purpose: We report a case of long-standing bilateral chronic central serous chorioretinopathy associated with pituitary adenoma along with a review of the literature. Methods: A 42-year-old female had chronic central serous chorioretinopathy that did not improve for 6 months. To evaluate her endocrine state, we checked her serum cortisol level, and found it to be abnormally high. We then referred the patient to a physician. Results: The patient was diagnosed with Cushing`s syndrome due to pituitary adenoma. The tumor was removed by trans-sphenoidal surgical resection. One month after surgery, her serum cortisol level decreased to normal, her visual acuity improved and her fundus examination showed no abnormal findings. Conclusions: We propose that patients with chronic, recurrent central serous chorioretinopathy of unknown origin should undergo evaluation of their serum cortisol levels to determine if surgery is needed to treat a primary endocrine abnormality.
