한국어 속격 '의'의 실현과 DP 가설

Korean exhibits a clear asymmetry on realization of genitive uy in possessive nominal constructions. When a preceding noun has semantically possession relationship with its following noun, the genitive uy can be optionally realized. But, the notable thing is that the realization of uy becomes obligatory if a following noun corresponds to a definite proper noun. This paper presents a principled syntactic analysis of this contrast, arguing for a N-raising analysis of a proper noun(Longobardi 1994, 2001, Li 1999, Borer 2005, etc.). The analysis proposed in this paper supports a DP hypothesis of Korean nominal structures.
