"∼ㄹ/을 수(가) 있다": 우리말 관형절이 있는 주격복합명사구

There were several attempts made in the literature to distinguish underlying syntactic structures for a Korean expression "∼V-(u)l swu-(ka) iss" which is ambiguously interpreted. But any of these early attempts did not provide an adequate answer to a question why a specific syntactic structure established in each attempt should have such a specific reading of the concerned expression. In this paper, I will show that it is necessary to dissociate two properties in order to explain the source of the ambiguity of "∼V-(u)l swu-(ka) iss": one is that the expression is basically a Nominative Clausal Complex Noun Phrase Construction which can be ambiguously interpreted between the Single Subject Constructions and Multiple Subject Constructions, the other is that the noun swu is an intrinsically polysemous word which has an ability/capability reading and a possibility/probability reading.
