The lexical history of korean word 'chak-hada[착하다]'

The aim of this paper is to investigate the lexical history of 'chak-hada[착하다]'. The paper dealt with the provenance of 'chak-hada[착하다]' by analyzing the literary appearance of 'chak-hada[착하다]' and a variety of changes in lexical meanings. 'chak-hada[착하다]' is first appeared in Seogungilgi[셔궁일긔] and Kyechukilgi[계튝일기] as with '착'. Many of the linguistic evidences are showed that these books are assisted or recreated at least after 1600 years. Therefore, this paper has examined that the first appearance of '착다' found in Manchu language which has a great effect on Middle Korean is possible. Especially, like the word phrase 'cak sere'. and also examined the possibility that 'cak sere' was changed the meaning from 'commendable, peculiar, strict' to 'lift up to adult's expectations' go through 'be worth satisfying one's expectations' which is the meaning of Modern Korean. Going forward, enter into Modern Korean 'chak-hada[착하다]' has undergone a variety of changes in lexical meanings. The paper pointed out the opaqueness of incomplete root 'Chak[착]' in 'chak-hada[착하다]' for the important cause of the meaning change.
