호주의 전문학사 과정의 성격과 운영

The Characteristics and Principles of Associate Degree in Australia -Focused on Engineering Program-

본 연구는 호주자격체계의 6수준에 속하는 전문학사과정이 직업 준비와 이론적 기초 양성이라는 두 가지 역할을 어떻게 수행하고 있는가를 공학 분야를 통해 고찰함으로써 우리나라 전문대학 교육의 시사점을 얻고자 시도되었다. 호주의 전문학사는 직업교육섹터에서 운영되는 고급 디플로마보다는 기초 지식과 일반적 역량을 강조하며, 학사학위보다는 실무적 능력을 향상시킴으로써 하이브리드한 교육과정을 운영하는 독특한 특성을 가지고 있다. 사례로 살펴본 공학 프로그램은 산업체 경력자의 수업과 산업체 요구를 반영한 프로젝트 수업을 통해 학생들의 실무능력을 향상시키고 있으며, 학습자들의 기초능력과 전공 기초지식을 향상시키기 위하여 교육적 지원을 강화하였다. 호주의 전문학사 과정의 운영 원리와 사례는 중간전문가에게 요구되는 자질, 기초 지식의 중요성, 질 보증 시스템의 측면에서 우리나라 전문학사 과정 운영에 유의미한 시사점을 제공해주고 있다. 전문학사 과정이 계속 학습과 직업 준비라는 두 가지 상이한 기능 사이에서 균형을 잃지 않을 때 교육수요자들로부터 선호되는 과정이 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study investigates the characteristics and principles of associate degree in Australia to gain meaningful implications for associate degree in Korea, in which competency-based curriculum is currently being adopted by policy. The author collected the formal reports from authoritative organizations through internet as to introduction background, development, and program curriculum cases of associate degree. The author acknowledges the new vocationalism in Australia which is characterized by streamlined tertiary education system to correspond various students demands, and by assured quality to articulate in vertical and horizontal way. The associate degree as level 6 in AQF carries out the dual roles-pathways to further study and employment for the paraprofessional jobs. The author recommends three suggestions from the findings - the broad attributes of paraprofessional, importance of underpinning knowledge, and quality assurance system surrounding associate degree program.
