Evaluation and Efficient Operation of Trade Adjustment Assistance in Korea

Dependence on foreign trade is estimated at 70% of GDP in Korea. In particular, there is a lot of interest in FTA since the globalization of international trade in Korea and thuis, it is taking a proactive stance on FTAs. Korea signed the first FTA with Chile in 2004 and has since then concluded FTAs with 8 countries as of August 2013. However, FTA negotiations have to consider to position of FTA partner and local parties, because of double-sidedness character its. In order to conclude effective FTAs, more careful negotiations strategy is required. Also, the expansion of trade opening causes problems, that this is adjust the enlarged competitive and expand emotion for non-openness. Eventually, appropriate compensation policies that can arised victims from the market opening according to the FTA. This study presented the characteristics of the introduced trade adjustment assistance for resolved issues under the trade open system and proposed the operational limits and effective methods of trade adjustment assistance.
