This study aims to investigate the impact of dynamic capabilities on the performance of 222 Korean high-tech/IT venture firms exporting to foreign markets and analyze its relationships with positional advantages and overseas performance. In building upon this research, we have proposed an integrated model in which dynamic capabilities are applied to SPP(source-positioning advantage-performance) framework in terms of source. Past literature state that the overseas performance of exporting SMEs lies in their ability to create a set of distinctive capabilities that enable it to stand out amidst the competition. As Day and Wensley(1988) mention, firms possessing higher levels of dynamic capabilities focus on developing capabilities as navigated by its strategic choices. Study findings indicate that these capabilities which include R&D, operations and marketing are found to positively relate and enhance to have a positional advantage that is mediated to impacts on overseas performance. However, one of the dynamic capabilities, organizational earning competencies, is not found to impact on overseas performance. Overall, this research study shows that dynamic capabilities undertake an important role in exporting venture firms by enhancing positional advantage and performance in overseas markets. Finally, this research study offers theoretical and managerial implications, and provides suggestions for future research.
