This empirical study delves on issues of export assistance programs for SMEs suggesting practical measures for improving such programs. An analysis of the effectiveness and validity of export assistance programs for SMEs in Daejeon, Korea was performed. In this study, similarity, doubleness and low awareness of export assistance programs were recognized as the most important factors which must be resolved for improvement. Results of the empirical analysis subject to 153 firms in Daejeon revealed that reinforcement of export competency is the most important thing required to increase satisfaction and utilization of SMEs in Daejeon. For this purpose, it was determined providing assistance for effective export marketing strategy establishment, securing specialized manpower, developing customized products and brands for the target market, and etc. are needed.
