The purpose of this study was to suggest the space plan of cafe fit for the locational characteristics, in respect of the difference of interior design factors, user needs and space requirements by location; downtown, college town, or residence town. For the study, we surveyed the 9 cafes of 3 different franchise brands on their respective interior design compositional factors, and observed user behavior at leasure time of 3~5 PM, and 8~10 PM with 15 minutes' interval. 90 users answered self-administered questionnaire for the study during the period from 27 April to 14 May 2013. The results were as follows. 1) Cafes in residence town were mainly visited by females; 30s and 40s with occupations were more than in other locations. Their visit were mostly for meeting, and they wanted separated spaces for meeting, child care, and smoking. 2) Cafes in downtown were mainly visited by students and office women of their 20s. Their visit were mostly for meeting, and they wanted additional rooms for meeting. 3) Cafes in college town were mainly visited by females and students of their 20s. Their visit were mostly for meeting, pass time, and study. Staying time were longest among 3 locational types, and users wanted comfortable tables and chairs.
