Elderly Man also Grows- Conditions of Old Age’s Growth which <Grandpa over Flowers> Shows

이 연구는 <꽃보다 할배> 공동체가 보여주고 있는 노년의 성장이 그동안 우리가 당연하게 받아들여 왔던 노년에 대한 편견과 어떻게 다른지, 그리고 그 다름을 드러 낼 수 있도록 한 요건들이 무엇인지를 분석하고자 한다. 분석결과 <꽃보다 할배>는 텔레비전 프로그램이 노년 성장을 담아내기에 적합한 여러 조건들을 갖추고 있었다. ‘주인공’, ‘시즌제: 준비와 성장이 교차할 수 있는 충분한 시간’ ‘낯선 환경과 흥미로운 도전 과제들’, ‘시행착오와 실수들’, ‘배움 공동체’ 등이 그것들이다. 사실 이런 것들은 비단 노년뿐만 아니라 인생 그 어떤 시기의 성장을 담아내려고 해도 필수적인 요인들이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 <꽃보다 할배>의 차별성은 하나의 프로그램 안에서 그 요인들이 2년 넘게 진화하며 노년의 ‘그 다음’을 전개하고 있다는 점이다. 더 나아가 <꽃보다 할배>가 보여준 정말로 중요한 가치는 이런 조건들을 갖추어 노년의 성장을 이끌어내는 것이 비단 노년만을 풍요롭게 하지 않는다는 점이다. 그것은 노년 을 바라보는 제작진의 시선 역시 변화하고 있기 때문이다. 첫 여행에서 제작진은 여전히 나이 드는 것은 문제지만 적어도 노배우들과 같은 신체적, 사회적, 문화적 조건을 갖춘다면 문제가 되지 않는다는, 기존의 사회적 편견을 유지했다. 그러나 여행을 거듭하면서 이제 제작진은 노배우들의 현재와 미래를 보기 시작했다. 그들이 지금 그 나이에 지니는 한계를 인정하면서도 품위 있게 나이 들어 인생을 통합해나가는 과정에 주목하기 시작한 것이다. 제작진이 보여준 이러한 변화는 <꽃보다 할 배>가 보여준 노년의 성장이 우리 사회에 지니는 중요한 가치다.

This study examines how ‘Growth of Old Age’ which Korean TV real variety program(<Grandpa over Flowers>) has been showing for three seasons is different from the stereotype about Old Age in modern society. And the study also analyzes what factors make that difference. The factors are ‘main character’, ‘seasons: enough time for preparation and growth’, ‘unfamiliar environments’, ‘interesting challenges’, ‘trial and error’, ‘community of learning.’ In fact, these factors are necessary for growth in any period in life. Nevertheless, the distinctiveness of <Grandpa over Flowers> is that those factors have evolved and it has made us expect ’future’ of the old actors whose average age is over 70 years. Further, the most important value of this program is to show us the change in perspective of the young staffs about growing old. At first, they hold a prejudice against the old men, thinking that aging is the problem, except for a few old men who manage to keep their health at all dimensions of body, mind, as well as economic standings and personal relationship with other people. While the holidays of the old actors have been repeated, young staffs started to get freer of their prejudice. They became interested in the present and future life of the old actors and realized the value of integrity which people in their old age have to try to achieve.
