Cosmetic medical practice is a medical practice whose goal emphasizes beauty rather than treatment. The duty of explanation in the cosmetic medical practice as one of the independent important duties has a different signification from that in general medical practice. That is because cosmetic medical practice is performed for an aesthetic purpose in the state of normal appearance and function. It is quite unfair to give the unlimited discretionary power to a plastic surgeon by operating on the consumers in medical service in accordance with their agreement of the operation. Meanwhile, cosmetic medical practice needs to be institutionalized since the main agent and method of carrying out the duty of explanation are very important. It is necessary for the consumers in medical service to easily confirm the scope of the operation by specifying the scope of the operation in detail and carrying out the duty of explanation to the customer in the medical service. It is expected that consumer disputes caused mainly by the subjective dissatisfaction of the customers in medical service will be settled more effectively with the recognition of the importance of the duty of explanation and the institutionalization of the method of explanation in the area of cosmetic medical practice.
