In my doctoral dissertation in 2008, I have introduced punitive damages system, which is an universal civil relief way in common law system, has been formally determined in China by the legislation and enforcement of Law of the PRC on the protection of the rights and interests of consumers in 1993 and Tort Law of the PRC in 2009. This article mainly introduces the new trends of the legislation and enforcement of Law on the protection of the rights and interests of consumers since 2014, and explores the reasons why punitive damages system can be able to legislated and enforced successfully in China.
