한국과 미국 경영학계의 리더십 연구: 추세와 과제

Leadership Studies in Korea and the U.S Management Academia: Trends and Future Directions

본 논문에서는 최근 일어나고 있는 리더십 연구의 현황을 한국과 미국 경영학꼐의 연구결과들을 중심으로 정리하고 앞으로의 연구과제를 제시하였다. 한국에서의 리더십연구 추세는 대략 연구논문들의 과학적 엄격성 증가, 연구주제의 다양성, 변혁적, 카리스마적 리더십과 LMX이론에 대한 관심의 고조, 그리고 독자적 이론개발에 대한 실험 등으로 요약되었다. 이러한 추세는 미국에서의 리더십 연구 추세와 상당부분 맥을 같이 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 미국에서의 리더십 연구는 변혁적, 카리스마적 리더십에 관한 연구집중, 공유리더십, 이론(Shared Leadership Theory)의 출현, 리덧비 연구에 있어서 리더의 성별에 관한 연구, 분석수준(lever of analysis)의 중요성 대두, 전략적 리더십에 관한 관심 고조, 이문화 리더십의 광범위한 연구 등으로 추세를 요약 할 수 있었다. 이들 양구의 추세가 갖는 시사점들을 논의하였다.

This paper reviewed literatures of leadership that accrued both in Korean and the United States' management academia and yielded comparative results. In Korean academia, the trend of leadership research has been characterized as in improvement in scientific rigor, diversification of research themes, focus on transformational leadership and LMX theories, and exploration of new leadership theories. This trend in Korea appears to be closely coupled with the research trend in the American academia. In the latter, the leadership research focuses on transformational/charismatic leadership, emergence of shared leadership theory, gender differences in leadership, issues on levels of analysis, cross-cultural aspects of leadership and strategic leadership theory. Implications of comparative results are discussed.
