윤리적 리더십과 진성 리더십에 대한 이론적 고찰

Theoretical Review of Ethical Leadership and Authentic Leadership

2000 년대 초반부터 전 세계적인 경제 불황이 시작되면서 가장 부각되고 있는 이슈는 바로 각계 리더들의 진정성과 윤리성을 회복하는 일이다 . 본 연구는 무한경쟁의 자유 시장 체제 하에서 진정성 없이 부정을 저지르면서도 재무적 이익을 극대 화하던 조직 내 가짜 리더십 (pseudo leadership) 의 한계점을 대체할 수 있는 새로운 리더십 , 즉 윤리적 리더십 (ethical leadership) 과 진성 리더십 (authentic leadership) 에 대해 이론적으로 고찰해보고자 한다 . 기업 경영에 있어서의 윤리적 리더십과 진성 리더십의 중요성이 크게 부각되고 있음에도 불구하고 윤리적 리더십과 진성 리더십의 공통점 , 두 리더십의 차이점과 구성 요소 , 두 리더십이 조직 및 팀에 미치는 성과 에 대한 연구들은 여전히 부족한 것이 사실이다 . 따라서 본 연구에서는 윤리적 리더 십과 진성 리더십 관련 선행 연구들을 고찰함으로써 두 리더십에 대한 이론적 이해 를 풍부하게 함과 동시에 두 리더십 연구가 나아갈 방향을 제시해보고자 한다 .

In recent years, we are witnessing a serious problem of the market-capitalist system caused by immorality and unethical practice of leaders. This research analyzes and compares the theories and constructs of ethical leadership and authentic leadership which emerged as one of the most interesting but unknown field in leadership studies. Many researchers on ethical leadership and authentic leadership point out the limitation of traditional leadership theories, because they only concentrate on the skill and style of leaders. Unlike the traditional leadership approaches, ethical and authentic leaders highlight ethic-related performance like ethical decision making, moral emotion, moral identity, and employees' psychological positivity than any other type of leaders. Even though these two leadership have been based on ethicality and integrity and have concern for others, they are different concepts and constructs. Authentic leaders emphasize authenticity and need to be fully aware of themselves through the self-awareness. Ethical leaders emphasize moral management through other-awareness and ethical leadership, which is more transactional than authentic leadership. In conclusion, authors argue that they are independent leadership forms and they are the root leadership for any other kinds of leadership.
