A Study of the Widow's Mite in the Gospel of Mark 12:41-44

This paper aims to study the story of the Widow' s gift to the Temple(Mark 12:41-4) from Mark' s perspective. The story is traditionally believed to be a beautiful story of devotion by a poor widow. The idea that the widow' s mites is a praise from Jesus, however, has been challenged by A. G. Wright. He believes that this is not an opportunity to praise the widow for her offering, giving all that she has, but a chance to lament the injustice that creates the condition for the social exploitation caused by the religious corruption. This article is an attempt to strengthen his view by delving on the concept of the heavenly temple, the replacement of the old temple by the new temple Jesus who forgives sin without any offering to the temple.
