This paper analyzed the mediation effect of job stress on the impact of emotional labor of employees in beauty shops on depression. The results are summarized below. Emotional exertion accounted for the highest ratio regarding emotional labor and relational conflict showed high points in job stress. Twenty-one point two percent (21.2%) of the test group was classified into the depression group. Emotional discrepancy had a positive correlation with depression while job stress had a partial mediation effect on the impact of emotional discrepancy on depression. In accordance with the analysis result, the emotional discrepancy caused when the workers had to meet customer demands against their own emotional state was a risk factor for depression. Furthermore, this emotional discrepancy had a direct impact on depression. Job stress also had an impact on depression. Accordingly, these results indicate the need for approaches that will reduce both job stress and emotional exertion so as to help reduce depression for workers in beauty shops.
