Politics of Sexuality Discourse in Chosun Dynasty

이 글에서는 병자호란(1636-1637)을 배경으로 한 장편역사소설 「화냥년」을 읽는 다. 이를 통해 청나라 포로로 끌려갔던(그리고 이후 속환의 과정 속에서) 조선 여인들의 발가벗고 박탈의 삶이 어떤 담론의 과정 속에서 가능했는가를 탐문한다. 그리하여 국가의 보호를 받지 못한, 혹은 버림받은 삶들의 현재적 의미를 짚어본다. 국난을 당했을 때 군신은 물론 죄 없는 백성들이 죽음을 포함한 온갖 고초를 감내할 수밖에 없겠으나, 특히 여성들이 겪는 성적 착취의 문제가 얼마나 자심했는가 하는 것, 더불어 그들을 대하는 조정과 사대부들의 시선이 어떠하였는가에 보다 주목한다. 까닭은, 여성억압-착취의 원인을 찾아내고 해방에 대한 전망을 제시해 보고자하기 때문이다. 그러므로 이 글은 결국 역사의 진보가 여성에게도 그러했는지를 묻게 될 것이다.

In this paper, through the book ‘Hwanyangnyen’, which is a long historical novel set in Manchu war (1636-1637), I would like to question how women’s naked and deprived lives could be possible when they were taken to Qing Dynasty as captives and then returned to Chosun Dynasty. So, I want to take a look current meaning of lives that couldn’t get national protection and were abandoned. During a national crisis, not only innocent people but also a king was forced to endure all kinds of hardships, including the death. But I want to pay attention to especially how serious women’s sexual exploitation was and How government and high officials treated them. Because I want to find out the cause of woman oppression and exploitation, presenting forecast of woman liberation from the oppression. Therefore, this paper will eventually ask that the historical advancement was also same to women.
