The Status Quo of Information System of Chinese Studies in Korea

IT(Information Technology) means not only to write a paper using computer, but also to accumulate data scattering around and convert it into useful informations. The IT society is that one which is maintained and made up of by the circulation of these informations. The IT level of Korean sinology is rather a low one. The database of articles does not exit and ,if it does, there is no proper maintenance to that. But hereafter the Chinese studies by Korean scholars cannot and should not be done in the personal level. The reason for that is as below; 1. There is a limitation for one to collect data which exists in the world. 2. The Chinese studies of hereafter cannot be done by a single data in a single area. 3. We do not live in a world where an article can be written with some kinds of data. 4. With the relativity of the meaning of the past, the collection of data in the present time means to prepare the future ones. 5. The direction of researches can be referred to under these achievements. The Chinese studies in Korea made a turning point by establishing the Center for Chinese Studies(www.sinology.org). The two main streams of CCS can be focused on the construction of network and the development of contents. The former is realized by making a homepage in the internet, the latter means to establish an e-library by the cumulation of various kinds of database.
