A Study of the first critics of the Dream of the Red Chamber: The focus on Zhi-yan-zhai

It has been noticed that before Cheng weiyuan and Gao e's published the novel, 《Dream of the Red Chamber》consists of 120 chapters, through 'Cuiwenshuwu' in 1791, 80 chapters of it already had been read as an original title of 《Story of the Stone》. Since that time, it was Zhi yanzhai and Ji husou began to analyze and criticize the 《Dream of the Red Chamber》 with the auspices of Cao xueqin's friends and relatives, in which they corrected and revised the novel. They are the first critics who a review of transcription of 《Dream of the Red Chamber》 in the history of studying that. Since the performances of criticism by Li zhuowu, Jin shengtan, and zhang zhupo, Zhi yanzhai's outcome has been the most influential by offering the invaluable novel criticism as far as the Chinese classical novels. Also, it furnished very crucial materials for Chinese novel criticisms, affording Cao xueqin's entire life trace of achievement other than the fact that Cao xueqin is the author of the 《Dream of the Red Chamber》. Consequently, I believe that Zhi yanzhai is the most influential literary reviewer who contributed to the Chinese novel theory's flourishing.
