Ernest Major was a businessman who come from England. He Engaged in publishing business in Shanghai for a long time. His publishing activities affected the development of modern Chinese novel. For example, he published literary journals,which let Chinese people know how to published modern literary journals. In the same time, Major seek the novel manuscript and introduce the novel books through the modern media, which expanded the scope of the novel transmission. Furthermore, he emphasised on novel books copyright, which promote the development of copyright system. Therefore, the publishing activities of Major was one of the contributing factors for promoting the transformation of modern Chinese novel.
