The evolution of the Tang Dynasty novel in the forms of Popular Literature in later ages has already constituted a unique literary phenomenon and cultural phenomenon. This article attempts to apply the related theories in gender study to the difference of Li Wa’s image in “Li Wa Biography” among the Song story-telling script, Yuan drama and legend story of Ming Dynasty, and discusses the evolution path of Li Wa’s image. In the legend story of Tang Dynasty, Li Wa is a mature, sophisticated, sober fireworks female of insight. In the Song story-telling script, Li Wa is a simple, kind-hearted prostitute in Chang An. In Yuan zaju, Li Wa is a simple, kindhearted, brave and vixenish “Yueji” of the imperial music office. In Ming Dynasty legend, Li Wa is a polite, loyal, chastity and virtuous courtesan in Chang An. In Qing Dynasty drama Li Wa is a chaste and loyal wife. This female idealized, hallowed behavior undoubtedly distorted the female’s image, which is one of the man-centered culture sexual political strategies to suppress women.
