Study is done on the status of writings with regard to Chinese film history in Korea and on how to develop stories in them. This study indicates Korea’s attempt to understand China through its movies. Korea academics have tried to perceive Chinese movies in their own way since the early 2000s. About 40 books have been published on Chinese movies, most of which strongly show their general characteristics. The books are considered “historical description”. This thesis is on how Chinese movies are written in Korean Chinese film history publications and on their writing style and fundamental problems. To this end, works are classified by criteria and characterized. In addition, the thesis discusses problems with writings on Chinese film history and how Chinese movies are thought of through their writing style. Also, it suggests the direction to study on Chinese film history in the future. In other words, it looks into how to overcome the limitations of writings. So far, writings on Chinese film history have committed to writing what Korea wants to know in Chinese movies. Therefore, they focus on controversial directors and their films, and Chinese movies showing only Chinese characteristics. They are only centered on movie companies on the main land and on the movie history of blockbusters. They rarely deal with non-mainstream movies or low-budget movies. However, writings shouldn’t be done just on movies themselves. Film history can’t be understood by analyzing and describing just films and their writers and directors. This can’t show the whole picture. It is difficult interpreting phenomena and problems in film history. Therefore, writings on film history should be approached from every angle. That’s because movie history is not fixed, but incomplete and varied. Film history should continue to be revised without end.
