The Narrative of love between Lu Tung Pin and Bai Mu Dan shown in Three Tricks on Bai Mu Dan and Enlightenment of the Eight Immortals starts from resolving its entanglement of tie, which leads to Lu Tung Pin’s guidance of Bai Mu Dan to the way of immortality, finally achieving internal dan of Taoism. In the love narrative of Lu Tung Pin and Bai Mu Dan, there strongly reveals a characteristics of mystical ideal of self transcendence along with the emotional conflict. The key subject of Lu Tung Pin and Bai Mu Dan’s pursuing for a true self is naturally connected to the technique of internal dan of Taoism which asserts the practice of internal mind developed in the period of Tang and Song dynasty. This means that the soul becomes free from the constraints of life and death by completing the perfection in the world of internal mind. The principle of internal dan of Taoism aiming at longevity by cultivating mind takes the form of innovative theory through overturning the technique of alchemy which intends to accomplish one’s immortal with the intake of medicine of dan. Like this, the thought of internal dan longing for becoming Taoist hermit(Sinseon) with the cultivation of internal mind shares pulse with mystical and progressive Romanticism aiming at self transcendence while pursuing for one’s spirit in its internal world. In this sense, the meaning of ‘golden flower’ encompassing the meaning of cultivation of mind in Three Tricks on Bai Mu Dan and Enlightenment of the Eight Immortals can be said to take the colour of Romanticism.
