Tea ceremony and etiquette education has long been regarded as an effective humanity education for youth. With the passage of the Korean Tea Industry and Culture Development Act and Humanity Education Development Act, the tea culture industry has a new opportunity to expand tea ceremony and etiquette education to all schools in Korea. This study examined the status of tea ceremony education instructor development and certification programs. The study found that there are 39 tea ceremony instructor certificate programs from 31 tea culture and education institutions registered in the Center for Private Qualifications. On average, 6 new certificate programs have been registered annually since 2008. The study found that there is no consistent certificate grade levels and educational curricula across institutions. The lack of educational standards poses a problem for ensuring the quality and implementation of consistent tea ceremony educational programs in the country. The study recommends the establishment of a nationwide tea ceremony educational curriculum. As the first step, the study recommends the formation of tea ceremony education teachers association to initiate the development of nationwide curriculum for youth tea ceremony education and instructor development programs in Korea.
