김수자 작품에 나타난 문화정체성에 관한 연구

A Study on the Cultural Identity in Sooja Kim's Work

본 연구는 국제적으로 활발한 활동을 하고 있는 김수자(金守子) 작품에 대한 문화정체성에 관하여 중점적으로 다룬 연구이다. 특히 강조 되는 것은 그녀의 작품들이 시대적으로 다원화되는 상황 속에서 세계화되는 미술계의 변화와 함께 주요한 비평 담론들과 어떻게 접목되고 관련되는지를 파악하고자 하는 것이다. 세부적 연구로는 김수자에 대한 소개와 작품의 양식적 변천이 문화정체성으로 연결되는 작업의 특징에 대하여 해석을 하고, 독자적 경험을 통하여 개인적으로 나타나는 문화정체성을 살펴 볼 것이다. 특히 김수자의 작품 설치 퍼포먼스의 대표작 <보따리>, <보따리 트럭>등의 작업과 마지막 <바늘여인>작업을 유목주의와 문화정체성의 맥락에서 고찰하고자 한다. 이러한 연구들을 통하여, 김수자 작품들의 특징을 정리하고, 작품 속에 내재된 문화정체성을 확인함과 동시에 한국 미술계의 상황과 국제 전시들 경향까지 연결되는 중요한 전반적 맥락의 가치에 대한 이해를 돕고자 한다.

The major goal of this study is to examine cultural identity of international artist Sooja Kim's works. This study, in particular, tries to grasp how Kim's artworks are implanted and related to the major criticism arguments as well as the change of the art field that is getting globalized with her works diversified age by age. To be more specific, this study introduces the artist; interprets her work characteristics in which the transition of her work styles has a link to cultural identity; and looks into the cultural identity that appears through her unique personal experiences. Especially, I try to analyze her representative installed work performances such as her last work, Needle Woman as well as Bottari and Bottari Truck in the context of nomadism and cultural identity. Through these studies, I will list up the characteristics of her works and identify the cultural identity implied in her works. Also, I analyze her artworks to facilitate understandings about the values of major as well as overall context that encompasses the Korean art community's current status and international exhibition trends.
