개혁파와 장로파의 ‘신약의 구약 사용’ 이해와 의의

개혁교회의 선구자 존 칼빈과 장로교회의 설립자 존 낙스의 성경 해석 가운데 신약의 구약 사용 방식을 비교한 연구는 거의 없다. 이 두 사람의 비교 연구에 개혁파의 입장이 반영된 장로파의 문서인 제네바성경(1560)을 함께 비교한다면 이 셋 사이의 상관성은 잘 드러날 것이다. 이 글의 목적은 개혁파와 장로파의 대표적인 이 두 인물의 성경 해석 중에서 신약의 구약 사용 방식을 비교하되 제네바성경도 비교 대상에 포함하여 평가하는 것이다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여 먼저 칼빈이 신약의 구약 사용을 어떻게 이해했는지 연구하고, 그다음 낙스와 제네바성경의 신약의 구약 사용 방식을 탐구한다. 그 다음 이 셋을 평가하고, 마지막으로 이상에서 논의된 결론이 한국교회에 주는 현대적 함의를 살핀다. 이 글은 낙스보다는 제네바성경의 신약의 구약 해석 방식이, 제네바성경보다는 칼빈의 신약의 구약 해석 방식이 좀 더 철저함을 보여준다. 물론 칼빈의 신약의 구약 해석 방식이 완전하여 보완할 것이 없다는 의미는 아니다. 16세기의 개혁파와 장로파의 중심인물들과 저작을 검토함으로써, 현대 개 혁파와 장로파의 구약이 사용된 신약을 어떻게 석의하고 있는지 현재 상황을점검하여, 나아가야할 올바른 방향을 찾을 수 있다.

The aim of this paper is to delve into the relevance of the Reformed and the Presbyterian thought by focusing on their understanding of the use of the OT in the New. However, comparative studies on John Calvin, the founder of the Reformed Church and John Knox, the founder of the Scottish Presbyterian Church, in terms of their method of the use of the OT in the New have been sparse. In order to show a clearer comparison between Calvin and Knox, the Geneva Bible(1560) as a significant Presbyterian heritage influenced by the Reformed circles is added. To reach this aim, this paper takes the following steps: first, Calvin’s stance on the use of the OT in the New, second, the characteristics of Knox’s understanding of the use of the OT in the New, third,the Geneva Bible's idea of the use of the OT in the New, and last, a summary and comparison between Calvin, Knox, and the Geneva Bible. This paper proves that the revelation historical interpretation of Calvin is slightly better than the expository notes in the Geneva Bible, which is better than Knox. This does not mean that there are no elements to modify Calvin’s interpretation on the use of the OT in the New. By investigating and comparing these core figures and the document of the 16th century Reformed and Presbyterian circles, we can evaluate contemporary situation of biblical theological interpretation and can recommend a better direction for a Christ-centered interpretation of the use of the OT in the New.
