개혁주의와 복음전도

개혁주의에 무슨 복음전도가 있느냐란 비판이 역사적으로 제기되어 왔다. 왜냐하면 개혁주의의 선택과 유기라는 예정 교리 때문이다. 구원 받을 자에 대한 하나님의 선택이 있다면 무엇 때문에 복음전도라는 인간의 행위가 필요하겠는가라는 비판이다. 그러나 그러한 비판은 전혀 근거가 없는 비판이다. 그렇게 비판하는 원인으로 첫째는 역사적 칼빈주의를 극단적 칼빈주의와 혼동하기 때문이요, 둘째로 칼빈의 가르침 중의 일부분인 선택 교리에만 집중하여 방대한 칼빈의 저술에 나타난 복음전도에 대한 인간의 책임에 관한 가르침을 고찰하지 못한 이유이며, 셋째로 선택 교리 자체에 대한 편협한 이해 때문이며,마지막으로 실제로 교회 역사 속에서 개혁주의자들이 보여준 복음전도의 열 정과 그로 인한 놀라운 열매들을 고찰하지 못하기 때문이다. 개혁주의 복음전도는 오늘날 유행하는 자본주의적 원리가 아니며 인간의 자유 의지에 기초한것도 아니며 그저 좋은 삶을 통한 관계를 강조하는 것도 아니며 오직 하나님 중심의 전도로서 인간의 능력을 철저히 배격하고 선포적이고 공격적으로 복음의 핵심인 예수 그리스도를 구체적으로 전하는 것이다.

There has been criticism that there is no place for evangelism in Reformed theology because of the primacy of the doctrine of election in Calvinism. It asks the question: Why do humans need to participate in evangelism if God has already elected specific people for salvation? However, this criticism comes more out of misunderstanding than critical thinking. There are four points of misunderstanding regarding Calvinism that leads to this criticism. First, there is confusion surrounding the differences between traditional Calvinism and hyper-Calvinism; they are often conflated when they should not be. Second, there is a disregard for Calvin's other teachings on human responsibility and an overly high focus on the doctrine of election,though it was not his main teaching in Institutes. Third, there is an overly narrow understanding of the doctrine of election. Lastly, there is an ignorance of Calvinist' contributions to evangelism throughout the history of the church. Reformed evangelism is not evangelism through an appeal to the human free will or deeds. Rather, Reformed evangelism is a God-centered evangelism that aggressively and boldly proclaims Jesus Christ because of the sovereignty of God.
