This study aims to investigate the effect of an English newspaper making activity on elementary school students' reading-writing abilities and English learning motivation. For this purpose, sixteen students in 5 th and 6 th grade engaged in the club activity for 16 weeks. The students read English newspaper articles and wrote their own articles on eight topics in pairs. The results of the study were as follows. First, the club activity of making an English newspaper had a positive effect on improving students’ reading-writing abilities. Low level students showed a significant improvement in reading ability, and low and mid level students showed meaningful gains in writing ability. Qualitative analysis of the students’ articles revealed that students’ lexical proficiency and grammatical ability were also improved. Second, it was discovered that the English newspaper making activity enhanced elementary school students’ English learning motivation in all English proficiency levels. Third, in the affective domains, the students showed increased interest and self-confidence in learning English, and lowered language learning anxiety after 16 weeks of club activity. Based on these results, suggestions for further studies are provided.
