The purpose of this study was to verify that a tea culture treatment program can enhance the cognitive ability and reduce depression in the elderly. In this study, the experimental group was 12 seniors at nursing homes and the control group was 12 seniors at the Social Services Center located in Busan. The research instruments used were MMSE-K, scale of cognition, and the K-GDS, depression scale inspection. The results of this study were as follows. First, the tea culture treatment program showed effect that improved the cognition competencies in the elderly. In terms of the sub-factors of cognitive function, compared to the pre-post inspection result, there was a significant change in orientation, memory and language section, and no significant change in the attention and drawing. Second, the tea culture treatment program showed effect that improved depression in the elderly. In terms of the sub-factors of depression, there was a significant change in the nervous, depressed emotions, helplessness, loss of motivation, and energy degradation, but there was no change in the life dissatisfaction and cognitive disorder. Third, in terms of the qualitative results of the personal change, seniors improved in cognition, sociability, reduced depression through group activities, and increased positive image for themselves.
