연어 사전 분석과 활용 방안:‘Wind’의 어휘적 연어를 중심으로

An analysis of and effective method for the use of collocation dictionaries: Focusing on the lexical collocations of ‘wind’.

Collocation English dictionaries are corpus-based and innovative lexical tools which empower English learners to solve lexical problems in productive language skills. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the content and structure of collocation dictionaries in order to demonstrate more effective methods on how to use them to help learners improve their English productive skills. Five different collocation dictionaries available for learners of English as a foreign language were used in this study. The results of this study reveal the following. First, each dictionary has distinctive characteristics to help learners utilize natural-sounding collocational units, especially for the productive skills. Second, fully corpus-based collocation dictionaries incorporate applicable examples and semantic groupings for productive lexical knowledge. Certain effective and productive utilization methods are discussed to help learners achieve a better command of this special type of dictionary to raise their awareness and familiarity with English collocations and formulaic patterns of words. The results are also discussed in terms of collocations and strategies of employing the productive communication skills, and some pedagogical implications are identified.
