In Beijing to attend China’s Victory Day ceremony, President Park Geun Hye had a summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders discussed peace, prosperity, and unification on the Korean Peninsula. Her seat on the podium for the military parade demonstrated the status of South Korea. But her visit was not favorably viewed by either the United States or Japan. Park should neutralize U.S. fears and should deepen the strategic alliance with Washington through the Korea-U.S. summit. Keeping in mind her two-track strategy, Park should also have a heart-to-heart talk with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe through Korea-Japan summit talks. All the while, it is necessary to consider North Korea’s position under heavy pressure and isolation.
