북한이탈대학생의 진로 코칭 참여와 전환적 경험에 대한 연구

Study on the Career Coaching Participation Experiences of NK Refugees who Attend College

이 연구는 진로 코칭(career coaching) 참여 경험이 있는 북한이탈대학생들을 대상으로 진로 코칭 과정을 통해 본인들이 체감하는 변화와 성장에 대해서 탐색해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 북한이탈대학생들의 생애사적 맥락을 고려하여 진로 코칭 전과 후에 어떠한 전환적 경험을 하는가를 중심으로 일에 대한 의미 생성과 관점의 변화를 알아보았다. 이 연구에서는 코칭이라는 지극히 개인적인 소통방식을 중심으로 이루어진 경험에 대한 이야기를 수집하고 분석하고자 하였기 때문에 질적 연구방법을 통해 연구 참여자들의 목소리가 충분히 반영될 수 있게 하였다. 연구 결과, 연구 참여자들은 남한 입국 후에 신속하게 일에 대한 의미를 새롭게 구성해나가고 이를 적응의 주요과제로 인식하였다. 이들에게 북한에서의 일은 선택의 여지없이 주어지는 것으로 받아들여졌으나 남한에서의 일은 선택권을 갖고 하고 싶은 일을 주도적으로 한다는 것으로 파악되었다. 이에 따라 능동적으로 일하기 위한 역량개발과 본인에게 적합한 일을 찾는 과정에 대해 희망과 부담감을 동시에 가졌다. 이러한 맥락에서 진로 코칭 전, 후의 전환적 경험에 대해 연구참여자들의 자기성찰을 통한 변화와 그 과정을 확인해 보았다. 그 결과 첫째, 자기 주도성이 강화되는 경험을 했다. 둘째, 진로 영역 외의 어려움이 해결되는 경험을 했다. 이러한 과정 가운데 코치의 존재는 기능적 조력자 이상의 정서적 지지자로서 변화의 경험을 유도했다.

The objective of this research is to examine the benefits of career coaching for North Korean university student refugees and find out how such experiences had changed their perception about work and about themselves. For such purposes, their changing concept of ‘work’ due to their migration from North Korea to South Korea is highlighted. The comparative conceptualization of work reflected in their comparative transformative experiences before and after the career coaching process was also analyzed in-depth. The research results show that work in North Korea was deemed to be unavoidable and passive. On the other hand, work in South Korea meant ‘doing what you want’ and realizing your potential. With regard to the comparative transformative experiences before and after the career coaching experiences, they experienced an increase in self initiative. In addition, it was found that they experienced finding solutions to life problems related to their career paths. In the process of participating in career coaching, the professional coach was seen as someone who listened to them, and tried to understand them as peers without judgement. Overall, the coaches brought about huge positive changes in the North Korean refugee college students.
