A Study on the architectural characteristics used in the residential space in the Post-Modern Age

The objectives of this study are to analyze the characteristics of architectural ideas used in the residential space in the Post-Modern age which had been developed from 1960s to 1980s, to show the phases of housing space, to extract common features of spatial composition, and to suggest the guidelines of pluralistic compositional principles. Though today's pluralistic approach is often contradictory and defies classification, the various critics and works would display a fundamental process of change in their disbelief in the paradigm of Universal Modernism and in their search for a definition of new ways to interpret the world and formulate new concepts of order. In order to complete the study purpose as above effectively,the periodic scope is defined from the time of 1960s' on through 1970s' to the time of 1980s' on postmodern architecture. Contents of this study consist of four chapters as followings : introduction, literature review of architectural space in the course of history, the proposal of pluralistic spatial phases by the theorists in the USA and the Europe and features of postmodern residential space. Especially, the results of analytical reviews will be synthesized and used to suggest the strategies and guidances for the composition of housing space in future.
