A company faces various enterprise risks, such as natural disasters and man-made hazard during the process of business activities. In the case of Japan, the probability of a large earthquake in the near future is highly likely, according to surveys announced by various-related agencies. In order to continue to exist, companies must create a Business Continuity Plan as a proactive countermeasure to potential threats. Acquisition and diversification of the means of transport should take precedence for building a supply chain that is useful in emergencies; thus, the procedure should include coastal shipping of which is readily available with high self-integrity in terms of transport process. As part of disaster measures for sustainable management, the study reviews diversification of the means of transport utilized as key means, including pre-establishment of Business Continuity Plan. In particular, the paper analyzes the case of Japan, which is currently reviewing effective introduction measures for the expansion of coastal shipping.
